Are You Losing Control?

Reviews

This book was recommended to me by our School Counselor and after reading it, I can understand why. I found this book to cover the situations that my teens and I have been going through. I have applied Carolyn's knowledge on several different occasions and have found a greater peace has taken place within my home! Carolyn has shown me the way to brighter days with my teens. I know that there will still be some bumps in the road, but having this book at my side gives me great comfort. If you have children, you need this book, I highly recommend it.

Carolyn Bergmann's book on parenting teens is the most inclusive I've ever seen. Whatever your family structure or parenting concerns, you'll find it covered here. And you'll find it in a very readable and entertaining form. The parents in my group are eagerly buying and reading this book.

This book offers the freshest, most sensible approach to parenting teens that I've ever read. In fact, I'd recommend it to anyone who deals with teens, not just parents. It looks at every topic in a radically new way, from "rewards and punishment" to "dealing with conflict" to "peer pressure", "sex" and, perhaps the greatest fear for most of us, "alcohol and drugs." Best of all, it looks at teens in a whole new light: as persons-in-development who deserve our respect and support, and shows us how to provide it. An excellent book that will really make a difference in the way you relate to your teen!

I believe Are You Losing Control? holds the potential to become one of the most read, dog-eared, and frequently loaned references that finds itself in the homes of parents seeking advice and ideas that are relevant, practical, and workable. It's not about theory, folks, it's about living and surviving cohabitation with teens. It's respectful to moms, dads, and teens alike and some of the practical advice borders on hilarious -- if such a word can ever be appropriately incorporated into the lexicon of parents raising teenagers.

This book will put you in the forefront of awareness about historic modern issues and ideas that affect you and your teens ...will give readers some maps and routes to choose from as they embark on journeys into separation, divorce, step-families, and boomerang kids.
It's written by a mother who has been there and lived to tell about it, and therein lies much of the value and credibility of this book. As a parent, I've come to believe it is in the fellow travelers among us we will find the humility, honesty, and practical suggestions we need to raise responsible, respectful, and fulfilled young people. Carolyn Bergmann meets that standard for me."
